ZB Happy Read@NLB: Discovering Singapore’s past from our unique Chinese language

A product of our multi-cultural and multi-racial landscape, the Mandarin we speak is uniquely Singaporean. The Chinese phrases Singaporeans use are a part of our precious cultural heritage and a key to building our identity and sense of belonging. These phrases show us the paths trod by our pioneers and lead us to an understanding of our cultural genetic makeup, and our history. The talk will trace the origins and evolution of these Chinese phrases, and reveal the fascinating stories behind them.
